Minor constituents of the acetone-soluble lipids of red-clover (Trifolium pratense) leaves.

چکیده
Weenink (1961) has shown that the major components of the acetone-soluble lipids of red-clover leaves are composed of galactosyl glycerides, but there is no knowledge of the identity of the remaining constituents of the acetone-soluble fraction. From earlier observations in this laboratory (Weenink, 1961; Shorland, 1961) it appeared that, apart from galactosyl glycerides, the acetonesoluble lipids of leaves of forage plants contained a small amount of lipid material resembling triglycerides in chemical behaviou'r. The hydrolysis products, however, contained a large proportion of unsaponifiable matter and a correspondingly small amount of fatty acid; and although glycerol could be detected in the aqueouis hydrolysates it was not possible to ascertain the nature of the lipids present. This paper reports the isolation of triglycerides, diglycerides, sterol esters, free sterols and normal hydrocarbons from the acetone-soluble lipids of red-clover leaves.

Physiological and Morphological Responses of White Clover (Trifolium repens) and Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) Plants to Salinity Stress
Trifolium spp. are native plants in Iran exhibiting good ground cover po-tential. Salinity is a major environmental stress and today, 20% of the world cultivated areas and nearly half of all irrigated lands are affected by salinity. The main aim of this research was to study morphological and physiological adaptations of these native species under different salinity levels for urban landscape u...

متن کاملCloning and characterization of red clover polyphenol oxidase cDNAs and expression of active protein in Escherichia coli and transgenic alfalfa.
Red clover (Trifolium pratense) leaves contain high levels of polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activity and o-diphenol substrates. Wounding of leaves during harvest and ensiling results in browning of leaf tissues from activity of PPO on the o-diphenols. In association with browning, leaf proteins remain undegraded during ensiling, presumably due to PPO-generated o-quinone inhibition of leaf proteases....

متن کاملRed Clover (Trifolium pratense)
Brief Background: Red clover is a legume, which like soy contains "phytoestrogens" (plant-based compounds structurally similar to estradiol, capable of binding to estrogen receptors as an agonist or antagonist). Red clover was traditionally used to treat asthma, pertussis, cancer, and gout. In modern times, isoflavone extracts of red clover are most often used to treat menopausal symptoms, as a...
